Cassia tora Linn (legumes) is a well-known Ayurvedic herbal remedy that acts as a laxative, and antiperiodic and is used to treat leprosy, ringworm, bronchitis and heart disorders. CT seeds express antioxidant activities and contain many active substances including chrysophanol, emodin and rhein.
The antiproliferative activity of methanolic extract of C. tora leaf with cisplatin was studied on cervical cancer cells (HeLa) and proliferation was measured by MTT assay. The extract was found to induce marked concentration-dependent proliferative inhibition, reduced DNA content and apoptosis in HeLa cells.

Curcumin
Curcumin is normally obtained from the rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa) and has been generally used in traditional medicine due to its various restorative properties. It has antioxidant and pleiotropic effects by modulating multicellular signalling pathways such as inflammation, invasion, proliferation, metastasis and cell cycle.
Thus, curcumin turns out to be a traditional medicine with a therapeutic effect against cancer cells. At the concentration of IC50, HeLa and SiHa were treated in the absence as well as in the presence of curcumin.
The cur-liposome showed a significant increase in apoptosis population when treated with the same dose of curcumin compared to cells treated with crude curcumin.
PLANT MOLECULES AS ANTI-CERVICAL CANCER AGENTS
Several classes of cancer drugs have been developed, and many of them are of natural origin. Gallic acid (GA) is a polyhydroxy phenolic compound which is widely distributed in gall nuts, sumac, grape, green tea, oak bark, strawberry, lemon, banana, pineapple, witch hazel and apple skin and has a wide range of biological functions.
GALLIC has an inhibitory effect on cells containing HPV; inducing apoptosis and killing cells containing the HPV genome. Therefore, the study suggested that GA may be a potential candidate for the development of anti-HPV agents and as a new avenue for the treatment of HPV infection.

The study focuses on the mechanism by which CA inhibits cell proliferation in human cancer cells (HeLa and ME-180).
